Garfield 4; Rootstown 3 @ Garfield

Thursday 9/18/14. Rootstown scored 1:56 into the game. Garfield tied it when freshman Zach Gorby headed a Rootstown goal kick to senior Noah Reider in stride with 24:26 left in the half. Rootstown took the lead back less than four minutes later on a free kick that hit the cross bar and bounced down into the goal. (20:48 left in the half). Rootstown then made it 3 to 1 with 9:51 left in the 1st half. 3 to 1 Rootstown at the half.

With 35:49 left in the game, Zach Gorby was taken down in the box awarding the G-Men a Penalty Kick. Noah Reider kicked it in to close the gap to 3 to 2. It looked like Garfield tied the game with 24:15 left when senior Mason Maddox hit a shot from the 18 yard line and it hit the cross bar and bounced down reminiscent of England in the 2010 World Cup... and just like that game it wasn't ruled a goal. However Maddox made sure the next time as he hit the back of the net on a ball that was headed to him by senior Zsad Lenart off of a Reider throw-in with 8:35 left making it 3 all.

The heroics came when freshman Andrew Morrissey sent a beautiful ball across which Zsad Lenart headed into the goal with 3:26 left in the game completing the comeback. 4 to 3 final (Garfield wins).

With Southeast beating Woodridge 2 to 1, this puts Garfield back in a first place tie with Woodridge at 5-1 in the P.T.C. Southeast is 4-1-1. Garfield now controls its’ own destiny in the P.T.C. league title race.
